Lois Conner Bohna
Lois Conner Bohna is a member of the North Fork Mono Rancheria, in North Fork California. She is a basket weaver and Acorn practitioner. She works very hard to educate and practice her culture in her daily life.
For the symposium, Lois will demonstrate traditional acorn processing and provide tastings. Anthropologists recognize acorn as a foundational "staff of life" food that sustained California Native peoples for millennia. "Acorn demonstrations are important because I want to make people aware of our culture. People are impressed with the skill and the process itself. They see all the steps that have gone into it and they appreciate it and they like tasting it." - Lois Conner Bohna
[This symposium] provides the chance to share our cultural knowledge with the conference attendees to gain an appreciation and respect for our customs. My hope is to see our food traditions and the accompanying stewardship thrive where we live—for the health of our Native Communities and our lands. Interested researchers, fire practitioners, government officials, and the public can help us achieve these goals.
